About Us

About Us

Our primary goal as the NC State IEEE Student Chapter is to engage students and foster meaningful connections with companies. We provide access to the latest industry knowledge through workshops, technical talks, and events — connecting the student body to industry partners to foster innovation and benefit society.

About IEEE

Our History

Our History

Over a Century of Engineering Excellence

1910

AIEE Student Chapter Founded

A group of electrical engineering students at NC State formed a student chapter of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), making it one of the oldest engineering student organizations on campus.

1947

IRE Student Chapter Established

After World War II, NC State became the home of an Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) student chapter, reflecting the growing importance of radio and electronics technology.

1963

IEEE Student Branch Chartered

The AIEE and IRE merged nationally to form the IEEE on January 1st, 1963. The very next day, both NC State chapters merged and were re-chartered as an IEEE Student Branch — which has been active ever since.

2012

IEEEXtreme #1 in the US

The NC State team achieved the top score in the United States and 5th place worldwide in the IEEEXtreme 6.0 programming competition.

2017

SoutheastCon Website 1st Place

NC State IEEE won 1st Place in the IEEE SoutheastCon Student Website Competition, showcasing our web development and design capabilities.

2018

Triple SoutheastCon Winners

An exceptional year with 1st Place in T-shirt Competition, 2nd in Hackathon, and 3rd in the Networking Event at IEEE SoutheastCon.

2024

OPS Program Expansion

The Open Project Space program expanded to include OPS 2, a semester-long independent project track with PCB design, embedded systems, and 3D printing.

2026

Rising Stars & SoutheastCon

Our chapter sent 11 students to IEEE Rising Stars Conference in Las Vegas and is competing at SoutheastCon 2026 in Huntsville, AL.
